As many of us know, Thanksgiving is right around the corner and the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, while eating foods like pumpkin pie, turkey, and mashed potatoes is approaching very soon! Along with this holiday is the very anticipated Thanksgiving break which many kids are eagerly waiting for! As part of our celebration of this holiday, here is a list of some of our top favorite activities for families and friends to do together.
1. Pumpkin Decorating Contest
When you think of Thanksgiving, what do you think of? Pumpkins! Ignite some friendly competition with your family and friends by getting pumpkins and decorating supplies like paint, stickers, or markers and hold a pumpkin decorating contest! With a set time to decorate, see who can come up with the most creative, unique, and interesting pumpkin design and of course, make sure that the judging process is as fair as possible! The pumpkin designs can be anything from movie characters like the Minions or baby Yoda or intricate designs, but it’s all up to your imagination.
2. Game of Flag Football with Friends
Wear a hoodie and some shorts because fall weather always calls for a great game of flag or touch football with your family and friends! Grab a football and divide your crew up into teams for a good, old-fashioned game of flag or touch football. With the cool, chilly weather and sound of leaves crunching beneath your feet, playing a game of football is a great way of getting your blood pumping before filling your bellies with the delicious Thanksgiving feast. Of course, make sure to not get too rough as nobody wants to go to the hospital on such an occasion!
3. Best Dish Contest
One of the best things about Thanksgiving, besides the people you get to spend it with, is, of course, the food! Classic foods like ham and turkey are always on the menu, but how about switching it up a little bit and telling everybody to bring in some of their favorite snacks and seeing whose dish is the most delicious! Before Thanksgiving, make sure that everybody has something unique of their own whether it is a special chip, soda, or combination of foods that they secretly eat on their own (there are some interesting food combinations out there like Vanilla Ice Cream and Soy Sauce!) and see who has the best snack! Although this may be a little untraditional, it’s always fun to see what secret snacks some of your friends and family members may be eating when nobody is around. Who knows, maybe you might find your new favorite food!
4. A Gratitude Battle
Last, but not least, of course we cannot forget the main reason why we celebrate Thanksgiving; taking the time to be grateful for what we have and for the people around us. To celebrate this, we propose a…very intense…very dangerous… gratitude battle! Sit around in a circle with your crew and give everyone a chance to challenge someone to a gratitude battle. After challenging someone, the two people can stand up and move to the center of the circle where they will face off in a 1v1 gratitude battle going back and forth in giving each other a reason why they are grateful for one another. There will be a time limit of 5 seconds for each person to come up with a reason of gratitude for the other person and whoever cannot think of something within those 5 seconds loses. Although it may sound easy, it gets intense very quickly and it’s also very fun to watch two people compete in supporting and helping one another feel appreciated. This friendly competition is a great way to build friendships and relationships and after, you may look back at it and remember how appreciated you are by those around you!
These are our top four favorite activities that we all hope you enjoy during this holiday. Thank you for reading and happy Thanksgiving!!!
